Ride details and photos for the September 2025 trip to Malaga
A 55 mile out-and-back loop taking in a long steady climb into the wild and empty mountains behind Malaga, followed by endless twisty descents and spectacular views all the way back to Malaga.
55 miles, +5,900ft.
Day Two is a short train ride to Las Mezillas, then a steep climb out of the El Chorro gorge, before heading across to the wilds of El Torcal - a stunning limestone national park. A nice steady climb to the 1,200m summit of El Torcal, then a long downhill and twisty run back to Malaga.
61 miles, +6,500ft
Starts with the Puerto del Leon climb, which has featured in La Vuelta on many occasions, then out into the quiet countryside with stunning views in all directions. A nice twisty descent, then another decent climb before descending back to the coast for paella next to the beach.
49 miles, +7,600ft.
There's also an optional shorter route that cuts out the second climb:

The reserve ride is a short train ride to Las Mezillas, then heading off to the spectacular scenery of the El Chorro lake and gorge, and a quick detour for the climb that saw Esteban Chavez win a stage of the Vuelta in 2016 - Bobastro / Las Mesas de Villaverde. Then a long downhill run back to Malaga.
